Mrs Lilien goes to vegas

I'm wrapping up my NYC whirlwind and dashing off to the city of sin; I'm rendezvousing with Mr. Lilien... I've got a feeling we're gonna win! We'll take in the lights, the smoke, and all the accompanying naughtiness, and when we win, we'll celebrate with a wild display of haughtiness! We'll roll, shuffle + slot - he looking rather dapper, and me hot to trot - and we'll prance around looking for our jack pot. A little rolling of the dice won't cause any harm, especially when you've got lady luck on your arm!

Ahhh...I just love the hustle and bustle, the sounds of aggressive people getting into a tussle, and most of all having the opportunity to flex my fierce fashion muscle. So, I'm off to NYC for a very quick little cruise; not long enough to get sauced up and partake in bad tattoos, but just enough time to shout it out and make it headline Mrs. news! I love expeditious jaunts to the big city; just another reason to pull out the big guns and march around town lookin' all kinds of pretty. I've got some business that I'll need to tend and a hot wad of cash that I've been dying to spend! So if you're in and about town over the next few days, don't be surprised if you see gold glitter showers amongst the sun's rays — it just means that Mrs. Lilien is here lighting the town ablaze.

Do me a favor and whistle if you see me; I'll toss you a wink and blow you a martini!

Upon embarking on any on-board journey, one must pack a tote of goodies to keep from getting squirmy. A Mrs. carry-on tote holds most traveling necessities as well as secretive pleasantries and indulgent amenities. Along side such engaging items ought to be a few comfort trinkets; you wouldn't want to be sans mink cuffs when traveling a far distance. Should the copius bloody marys induce an impromptu snooze, those big sunglasses sure come in handy if you want to zzzzz...off the booze. All those goodies and then some tucked neatly into a big statement bag  will make fellow travelers envious as they sit with their measly gossip mag!

On Tuesday evening I had the absolute pleasure of dinning at Kelly Wearstler's manse, truly a once in a life time endeavor. We giggled, we mingled, we drank + we dinned and just as you'd imagine everything was perfectly refined. Madame Wearstler, goddess of beauty and light, is every bit the gracious hostess, and an absolute delight! Her manse oozes with all that you'd hoped it would - bursting with explosive surprises, just as it should. Heck, I'd move into the hall closet if I could! The guest list was glittering — just dripping with brilliance — what a thrill to rub elbows with such beacons of magnificence! There was Karen, Kendra, Kelly, Karla, Emily, Jaclyn, Julie, Hillary, Valerie, Jazzi, Rachel, Geri, Aimee, Chloe and me...a night that will go down in Mrs. Lilien history! 

A major duchess curtsey to Mrs. Anne Cramer for providing my proper dinner party finery; I'd have been naked sans your wardrobe advisory, but thanks to you I felt like a royal Mrs. entirely!

The invitation comes and excietment abounds; you run to your closet to peruse your gowns. Stifled by the endless non-options you stop to contemplate...what type of finery is proper for a dinner party this great?!? Well, it's a tough call I really must admit; pulling perfection out of the air is hard, gosh-darn-it! If I need to look my best, all lady like and proper - I look to Anne and Kate who are bound to deliver an unrivaled show-stopper. Whether I'm going for bold sophistication, or a whimsical-ladylike combination, I can always turn to these ladies for dinner attire insipiration.

There's no denying that I'm a devout lover of gold. What's there not to like about this precious metal, so pretty and bold?! Although lately, yellow gold's rosy step sister has my eye wandering with it's blushy undertones so gloriously blossoming. Rose gold walks the razors edge between feminine and eccentric; it holds court in a category that's so different and authentic. I'm sold on this rosy hue there's no doubt about it. So much so that I'm willing to sing, scream and shout it!

Desperate for a dazzlingly decadent dessert revival? Look no further than my sumptuous raspberry-glam trifle! Nothing screams nostalgic quite like this delicious showstopper; the ultimate grand finale after dinner chart topper! This trifle is a great alternative to something predictable and chocolaty; that, and the presentation is rather resplendent when executed properly. At your next formal dinner gathering you ought to place my trifle on the table, then proceed to watch your guests lick their glittering plates all gluttonously and grateful!

Mrs. Lilien's Raspberry-Glam Trifle:

1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar

1/4 cup fresh lemon juice

1 cup seedless raspberry jam

4 cups raspberries

2 cups heavy cream

1 cup mascarpone

1 tsp. vanilla extract

1 1/2 pounds pound cake

1/4 cup gold edible glitter

DIRECTIONS

1. In a small saucepan, bring 1/2-cup sugar, 1/4-cup water, and lemon juice to a boil, stirring to dissolve sugar, 1 to 2 minutes. Let cool.


2. In a small bowl, combine jam with 3 cups raspberries, mashing slightly. In a large bowl, whip cream, mascarpone, vanilla and 2 tablespoons sugar to stiff peaks.


3. Slice pound cake 3/4 inch thick; brush both sides of slices with lemon syrup.


4. Fit 1/3 of slices snugly in the bottom of a 4-quart trifle dish or other glass bowl, trimming edges if necessary. Gently spread top of layer with 1/3 of raspberry mixture, and then 1/3 of whipped cream. Repeat to make two more layers; garnish with remaining cup raspberries and sprinkle with gold edible glitter. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
